So no trade analysis
on the Andrew/Caleb move? I personally like to for Caleb as he got the best player in the deal (Rios), the only keeper, and Wood seems to be shitting the bed quite regularly.
Rios is probably a better keeper, but even without Rios I have 8 possible keepers. I desperately needed the MI help, and Zobrist seems like he's for real. The other thing with Rios is that a lot of his value is in SB, and it doesn't look like I'll be losing my SB lead anytime soon.
I'm not convinced that Rios is a better player than Zobrist. He has a much longer track record, of course, but he's put up inferior numbers to Zobrist in every category except SB, in 100 more ABs. He's been in a (relative) slump that's lasted about a year now, and I'm starting to worry that he's never gonna come out of it. Had to trade for him anyway, though.
I was glad to get rid of Kerry Wood, in the end. Buehrle can be frustrating, but I have a pretty good idea what I'm going to get from him.
Also, up until his recent 2 blown saves, Wood had gone 11 appearances without allowing a run, 6 of those appearances without allowing a hit. So wood's main trouble at this point is not getting any damn save opportunities.
I think Zobrist is very much for real. If you combine last season and this season, over the course of 124 games and 364 AB he's hitting .276 with 27 HR, 72 R, 72 RBI, and 11 SB. That is pretty impressive production, more than I really hoped to get out of Alexei Ramirez this year, so he seems like a solid keeper. Rios is a pretty frustrating player, in my opinion. For all his hype and name recognition he's never hit 25 homeruns, driven in more than 85, and has only scored more than 91 runs once in his career. While he's a solid player overall, with middle infield so painfully thin and Zobrist able to play all over the diamond (2B, SS, OF) I prefer Zobrist over Rios. Of course, I do have a second baseman fetish.
As for Wood and Buerhle, Caleb seems to have timed dealing Wood perfectly. After a spectacular run (as Andrew mentioned) he's been knocked around a bit. Buerhle is a bit of an enigma - I strongly disagree with Caleb that you know what you're going to get. Maybe it is chance, but I've seen him get absolutely tattooed more than a few times. His fielding independent ERA (FIP) is a full run higher than his current ERA and his strikeout rate is downright terrifying, so I'd bet on an ERA north of 4 for the rest of the season for him.
My one hope with Wood is that his velocity is good- even better than it was in '08. I hope he can pick up more saves though- 2 in the last month is pretty shitty.
my only question on zobrist is has he been playing exclusively outfield this year (ie will he have MI eligibity next year, particularly at SS) - those numbers are great for a MI but less interesting as a an OF

Is that enough analysis for you?

24 games at 2B, 11 games at SS, and 30+ in the outfield, so he'll have all three positions next year.
well there you have it. this is why i am last in the league.
