"Official" Yahoo Response
Unfortunately, due to your rosters not be available until to Mon April 13th as a result of when you held your draft and your weekly deadline, the first day that you will be able to run retro stats is April 20th.
Does ESPN allow retroactive stats in a more flexible manner than Yahoo? In other words, without forcing us to tie our week 1 rosters to the rosters for another week.
If we have to stick with Yahoo, it seems obvious that nobody should be allowed to start a player in week 3 who wasn't on their roster in week 1.
I will look into that... We got to figure out something that will allow us to continue on as planned. Basically, all the Yahoo customer service people will do is what you already can do under the commish controls. So, totally, pointless.
ESPN only allows retro scoring for it's head to head leagues. I would rather us just ditch the first week of stats and not do retroscoring on the 20th. It sucks, but given the alternatives (switching to a new league or having to use the same rosters for 3 straight weeks) I think it minimizes the damage.
I concur, and not just because I got off to a lousy start. Having to lock in players for three weeks is really lame.
Before the first week, I didn't want to waste it. It wouldn't have been as fun if it didn't matter. Now that we're past it, I don't care anymore. I'd vote to just drop the first week.
Ditching the first week really sucks too. I'm going to be losing out on a preposterous number of rbi and hrs from Adam Lind and Miguel Cabrera. Couldn't we do something like have Yahoo not count the first two weeks, but add them in manually?
Adding the stats in manually to update the standings every day is extremely labor intensive. Mark would basically be running the fantasy league himself. It does suck a lot though, since my pitching did great in week 1 and has decided to shit the bed in week 2.
hmmmmmmmmmmmmm...neither of these is really great. it's probably to my advantage to lose as many of these first few weeks as possible, but just missing an entire week of stats seems lame. i think i'd rather just have the same lineup for 3 weeks - it certainly screws people with injuries etc. but I think we all have a number of those situations on our rosters.
Of course, that assumes that Yahoo gets it right this time. Maybe we'll be having the same discussion come week 4.
The best option would be if we can find a way to do retro stats in a way that doesn't tie our rosters to a particular week. For example, if we can do it after the season is over, or if we can twist some yahoo person's arm to run retro stats on a different day than Sunday. I get the feeling their system might not be flexible enough for that, though.
I think I prefer dropping the first week of stats, so that we can actually start playing fantasy baseball and end all this crap for good. But I'd go along with tying down our 3rd week rosters as well. I just worry that it won't work again.
I think it should work now. It sounds like the foul up was that it went to do retroactive stats just before the rosters were set. It is without a doubt a colossal fuck up by Yahoo, but I don't think that is should happen again.
this sounds vote-worthy. i think people should try the best they can to ignore their particular team's situation...losing a whole week of stats just seems like a big bummer to me.
Also, I don't want to have to worry about dealing with stats after the season is over. Whatever we decide to do, I think it should be something that is over and done with, and instantly reflected in the standings.
Agreed. I'd put it up for a vote. Either way, we need the standings in yahoo to be right for the rest of the season for sanity's sake. I really could go either way. It would probably better reflect how team's have done so far in the season to do retroactive stats. On the other hand, I feel like eliminating the 1st week only compromises one week's worth of stats, while going with the retroactive stats will compromise 3.
Are we voting? I vote to drop the first week. Asking people to start their week 1 players in week 3 is really starting to warp things, forcing people to start injured and ineffective players, not make moves, etc.
I think I'll feel better about things at the end of the season if we had 25 clean weeks of stats, rather than 25 clean weeks and 1 tainted week.
I definitely vote for dropping week 1. Both options really suck here, but the worst thing is to have to start someone in week 3 who you don't want to just because they're the only one who can play the position who was there in week 1. In my case, that means Jed Lowrie is on the DL and I have to start him.
It really kind of defeats the purpose of fantasy baseball when you already know the outcomes you're going to get depending on the decision you make. Let's hope Yahoo doesn't mess things up again.
so if we go with eliminating week 1 then we can start whoever we want in week 3? and week 2 stays even though we made those decisions thinking that they would reflect weeks 1 and 2?

What do we do about players that were hurt or are now hurt?
Also, it really ties our hands with players that we don't really want starting any more (cough-Uehara-cough cough)

There isn't a way to just manually enter a week or two of stats once, and have it substitute for the retroactive stats?
I'd prefer using the same lineup for the first 3 weeks of stats too. Again, it sucks, but it seems preferable than losing a week of stats.

Would we have to go through all the same stuff again? No adds over the weekend? Adds by email, then opening it up on Monday?
I think you can add who you want, but no one can play anyone in week 3 that was not on their roster to open the season.

Just like last time, the Google employee fails to use Google docs effectively. Seriously Taylor, you need to start pimping Google as hard as I do.
