Meche entered the eighth inning having retired 16 straight in a game the Royals were leading 2-1, but he gave up a double to start the frame. Ben Francisco then dropped down a great bunt down the third-base line. Meche fielded the ball and threw wide of first, only to be saved by Alberto Callaspo making a tremendous play. The second baseman, who was backing up first, grabbed the ball on one hop and fired a strike home to retire Tony Graffanino, who took off from third once he saw that the ball would get by Billy Butler. Unfortunately, that was were the good news ended. A single followed, and then a soft grounder to second turned into a Callaspo error, though it would have tied the game regardless. Meche was then replaced by Ron Mahay, who immediately gave up a three-run homer to Grady Sizemore. Meche ended up taking the loss even though he was outstanding for much of the contest."
Again, Soria stays on the bench. After Meche gave up the double, putting the tying run on 2nd with no outs, why wouldn't you put Soria in to 'save' the game????? Yes, Meche was pitching well but he had 100+ pitch count at that point. Can Soria not pitch back to back days after sitting for over a week? WTF.

No, because then the Royals wouldn't live up to their historic run of ineptitude. I just don't get it. No one would mistake Ron Mahay for the best, second best, or maybe even 3rd best option in the bullpen, but he is in there with the game on the line. That said, Grady Sizemore doesn't hit lefties very well at all (.224/.347/.388).
You mean, he doesn't hit lefties well not named Ron Mahay (.375/.857/1.232 Before today's game in 7 at bats).
