¡Alcides!

In his major league career, spanning parts of five seasons, 433 games, and 1488 at bats, Alcides Escobar hit 11 home runs, or one home run every 135 at bats.  Tonight, he went 2/4 with two home runs.  Of course, he'll probably go the rest of the season without one now, since he's hit his allotted four to match his total from 2010 and 2011.

Pretty incredible the year he's having. He's the #3 SS on player rater this year, close behind Andrus and Jeter, and ahead of the likes of Asdrubal Cabrera and Yunel Escobar. Bet you don't miss Denard Span much?

His season has definitely been fueled in part by a .368 BABIP. His career BABIP is .300. But he has traded some fly balls for line drives and ground balls, so part of that could definitely be based on him changing his spray pattern.

Actually, yeah, the Fangraphs De-Lucker 2.0 says he has an xBABIP of .359.

It also says that Mike Young (BABIP .297, xBABIP .351), Yunel Escobar (BABIP .269, xBABIP .341), and Jhonny Peralta (BABIP .304, xBABIP .343) have been quite unlucky so far.

Depressingly, Adrian Gonzalez has actually been LUCKY so far this year.

Yeah, given his speed and batted ball profile (lots of grounders, some line drives) that career BABIP was a lot lower than it should have been, at least before the season started. Believe me, I know. I rostered him most of last year.
