Mystery player

This player is hitting .333/.378/.505 for the season, and an incredible .366/.415/.583 since the All-Star break. He's hit just about everywhere in the lineup - leading off, in the 2 hole, and even clean-up. He's on pace for a 20/20 season, and also plays good defense at an up the middle position for a team that is fighting for a playoff spot, yet somehow doesn't have much MVP buzz.

I think Dustin Pedroia deserves a little more credit than he has been getting.

what i want to know is where frickin alexei ramirez came from. 300. with power and 10+ steals. now that was a good waiver wire pick-up.

Well, I heard one scout's assessment of Alexei Ramirez (I forget where it came from, maybe Buster Olney, maybe one of the ESPN fantasy guys) was Alfonso Soriano lite. Good power, a few bags, but he can actually play defense. Now that he is shortstop eligible, he looks like a great potential keeper. And to think, he was nearly thrown in to the Lackey-Quentin deal instead of Brandon Morrow, but Andrew didn't want him.

I read whatever Bill read, and was about to pick Ramirez up when I saw Bill got him.

As for Pedroia...As the guy who probably should have kept him last year, I think you have to keep him this time around. He could end up with a .330 average over 640-650 at bats, which is a huge improvement in average over most MIs. He's leading MLB in runs scored. He's a five tool player (whether or not his power is for real is arguable) in one of the best offenses in the league.

I'd keep him over most of the hitters who will probably be kept this year.

I wouldn't beat yourself up too much over it. No one, except for PECOTA, which has always loved him, expected the counting stats to spike like this. He didn't hit 10 HR or steal 10 bases last year, and he's on pace to double both. Considering his size, I don't think anyone thought he had much projection left in him.

Yeah, Pedroia was more or less a toss in in that deal with Bill ,which is another reason I'm so maudlin about it. I could have just sat of Quentin and Pedroia and been looking at a keeper set of Quentin, Longoria, Ellsbury, Pedroia, and Cabrera for next year.

People are definitely considering Pedrioa now, but only recently. He gets the "MVP" chants at every at bat and the Globe had an article making his case yesterday. ESPN Sports Nation had 40% in favor of Pedroia for MVP yesterday. He's come on strong at exactly the right time and being a Red Sox, he'll get the big market bias. What a story that would be if he ends up winning it.

And yes Andrew, you should NOT have traded Pedrioa and Quentin. My Longoria trade is dangerously close to being all for not because of it.

Well Mark, you should be happy that you didn't insist on including Quentin in a deal. I would have been almost as happy with Granderson, and you'd be the one with a key part of your lineup out with a broken fucking wrist. God damn it. How many players am I going to lose for the season or have traded to the NL? Just to add to the list: Haren, Sabathia, Kotchman, Manny, Crawford, Kinsler, and now Quentin. That is practically a starting fucking lineup.

Just heard the report on Quentin on the radio. Ouch. White Sox fans and Bill are not happy campers today.

Now BJ Upton has quad injury. This is fun!

A quad injury on a Monday. The fantasy gods hate me.

If anyone watched the red sox game last night, that might have been the worst managed bottom of the ninth inning i've ever seen in a long time (ever?).

Also, I'm done trying to cheer for Varitek. He is so terrible. Can't even lay down a bunt. Beyond terrible.

And now Beltre is hurt too! Marvelous! The hits just keep coming!

The way things are going, by next week, Pedroia will have been cut in half in a tragic T accident.

Z said...

You gotta admit though, it makes for good tv.

At what point does Bill have an entire starting lineup hurt or traded away? I think we're rapidly approaching that point.
