Add Beltre to the list

After playing all year with a torn ligament in his thumb, Beltre is shutting it down after this weekend. That makes 1B (Kotchman), 2B (Kinsler), 3B (Beltre), OF (Crawford), OF (Manny), OF ( Quentin), SP (Haren), and SP (Sabathia). BJ Upton also has a quad injury right now, and has been held out of the last 5 games, Sherill hasn't pitched in a month, and Michael Young has broken bones in his right hand, and may be shut down soon as well.

It was said it would take an incredible amount of bad luck for me not to win. I think I've managed to cover that. Thank God football has started, although the Brady injury is worse than all of these injuries and trades combined.

2 weeks to go and absolutley no chatter. Mark and Caleb have pulled ahead. Titan Bill looks like a 3rd place team now. How am I the one checking in and I have been in last place literally all year.

I check in regularly, but I don't feel like complaining to no one at all. But now that I know you're here regularly...

Oh, I'll talk. I'm just still not sure I'm for real. If I am, I'm sure I'll be here a lot next week.

I hope you're not for real, but with each passing day it becomes that much harder to gain significant ground. I still think I have a shot, but it is by no means likely.

I check regularly as well. But I don't have much to say. Like Spencer, my season has been done for awhile.

Doesn't look like I'll be able to catch Caleb either. Funny things could happen in the last week, but it's a long shot.

We really need to add more teams to the league next year. I would like to add 2 more. We'd have to discuss how the new teams would get keepers, but I don't think it would be a big problem.

Like I said, I still think I have a shot. There are 5-6 points I could theoretically pick up in a week, but I'd need to get just about all of them to pull it off.

I think Kate would want to join and based on her fantasy football participation I think she'd be good.

I wouldn't have a problem with expanding the league. I think that the keepers will be much deeper in baseball than football, so the disadvantage wouldn't be as big in year 1.

I know I'm going to have some hard decisions for my last keeper spot come the offseason.

ooh i'm bill my keepers are SO good i'm going to have some HARD decisions!!

You're not too bad off yourself - with Carlos Pena, A-Rod, Papi, and Joba as pretty definite, which still leaves Shoppach, Lind, Snider (who will still have prospect status), and Denard Span, whom I can't quite figure out, but he keeps putting up good numbers.
Andrew is in a similar situation, with plenty of depth.
The ESPN fantasy baseball hitter keeper rankings came out today. In the AL, Mark had two top ten players (Sizemore at 2, Hamilton at 4), Spencer had #1 (A-Rod), and Andrew had 3 (Cabrera, Longoria, and Crawford for Andrew), and I had 3 second basemen, at least for this year (Kinsler, Upton, and Pedoria).
Long term, things don't look so hot for Caleb (1 in top 24, Magglio at 19) or Luke (Dye at 24).

those keeper ratings also say that francisco liriano will be the top pitcher in the AL next year. he's an interesting one as well.

I'd like to point out that I'm not out of it yet. I'll just keep hitting 4 to 6 hrs per day, and catch all you bastards. Or at least do enough to make things a little more interesting.

I'm only keeping two hitters anyway...let me know when the pitching rankings come out.

Rios wasn't on the list? I know it's a low-power season for him, but he's stolen 30 bases and batter .300.

For the record, I'd strongly oppose expanding the league with our current roster depth.

Spencer said...

really? why? I think it would be fun to dig deep.

I dunno, I get very little enjoyment out of watching Tim Wakefield pitch as it is, and I'd get even less if he were my number 3 starter. Just look at the free agents in the league right now and try to construct two starting rosters and benches out of them. We'd be down to very slim pickins in the catching and MI departments. There wouldn't be enough starting closers in the AL at the beginning of the season for everyone to have 2 on their roster.

I do see what you mean. It would be an interesting challenge, it would bring in new blood, and we'd have the possibility of an expansion draft, which could be fun. I just don't feel the need to do it.

Right now there are ownable catchers on the waiver wire - Kurt Suzuki, Ramon Hernandez, and even Tek to a lesser extent provide some value.

Starting pitching on the other hand could be very, very thin. Sonnastine, Litsch, and Buerhle can fill out a roster in a pinch, but beyond that it is slim pickings. Of course, and some point people will start to turn to middle relievers. That was the expectation when we expanded our rosters this year, but it didn't really happen.
