Another one bites the dust...
Another AL pitcher goes down, with McGowan now out for the season with a torn rotator cuff. In the last week we've lost two aces: CC Sabathia (he doesn't like the periods in his first name anymore) and Rich Hardin, the guy who would have replaced Hardin in the rotation (Gaudin), and McGowan, a guy who I thought would turn it around based on his second half last year, and his underlying numbers. Pitching just got even thinner, and could continue to do so, if the Jays decide to dump any more pitchers.

Spencer's Shop O' Pitching just opened up! How convenient!
Looks like Burnett might get traded as well, not that he's a prize...but potentially another pitcher off of Bill's roster.
On the bright side, Lackey has been awesome since you picked him up, right Bill?
Just ran the projections again. This time, instead of using BP's projections, I just assumed that each player would duplicate his first half production. I made arbitrary adjustments to AB and innings pitched for players with low first half totals b/c of injury pr for time in the bullpen/minors (e.g. Joba, Clement, etc.).
Even if I add Felix Hernandez and Beckett to my team at no cost I still lose by 7 points to Bill (46 to 39). Interestingly, my point total doesn't even change with them. THAT's how bad my pitching is.
With Bedard back on the DL and Harden gone, the reality of the season is slowly setting in.
Not that I want to argue with your about giving up on the season, but I think the projections undervalue solid waiver-wire pickups. You're relying on guys like Garza, Saunders, and Slowey, who fall into the 4.5 to 5 ERA range. I think they all should have ERAs of 4 or so from here on out, which I'm sure would help you a lot. An 8 point lead at this point of the season isn't insurmountable, but as long as I can keep my batting average up, I think I'll be fine.
I misread your previous comment. Feel free to give up on the season.
