I'd suggest that we go with every player only being kept for 3 years, vs having the 4 years for the later rounds.
I think it's reasonably unlikely that anyone would really "dominate" the league with 5 keepers, but the most likely scenario for domination is a team with stud players that they managed to pick up in the later rounds - if Andrew Miller, Phillip Hughes, and Billy Butler end up as Johan Santana, C.C. Sabathia, and A-Rod over the next year or so, then Andrew will be set, not just because he took great keepers, but because he still has his earliest picks in the draft intact. Letting him keep those players for 4 years vs 3 seems more likely to me to put us in a position where one team has a huge advantage.
I'd suggest three years being the max for everyone.

That is a pretty extreme example, and most likely one of those guys at best will be a 5th round pick in the next 2 years. Certainly not next year, maybe the year after with a good season. Of course, at that point, Andrew will have to dump them back into the draft.
I'm fine with 3 years for all players , it's just going to make the value of the younger prospects go a bit down. You won't be as willing to assume 2 years of development so you'll just be looking at keeping players ready for next season. That's probably how it will be for the most part regardless, and we have the prospect pick, which can be kept indefinitely until they have 100 or more at bats or 50 or more innings in a single season (at which point that will be considered year 1 of 3).
3 sounds good to me. I'm gonna go ahead and cast a vote for YOOOOUKS as well, who's doing some Navy shit in San Diego and has limited computer access right now.
3 is what we decided on at the beginning of the season, so I think we'd need a pretty overwhelming vote in favor of something else.
Ok, so 3 years for all picks will be the rule.
What if a player is injured all year (or has less than 100 ABs)? Should that still count or should we allow for a "medical redshirt" in that situation?
So there will be two types of players: Prospects and Regulars. Prospects will be any player who has never had 100 AB or 50 innings pitched in a single season. Regulars will be any player who has. Regulars are not eligible to be kept as the "prospect pick". Prospect picks can be kept indefinitely until they have a season with 100 AB or 50 IP. As soon as they accumulate the ABs or IP, their status will immediately be changed to "Regular".
Regular players can be kept for a maximum of 3 consecutive seasons regardless of when they were added. Trading a player does not reset their 3 year term. A keeper's term is reset only if that player is not kept at the end of the season OR is dropped mid-season and added BY A DIFFERENT TEAM through waivers or free agency.
Prospect players must be on a team for a minimum of 2 months before they can be kept as a prospect pick.
Regarding the redshirt, I think it will get too complicated. I'm not sure anyone is going to keep a player after a major injury anyway.
Regarding the prospect service time, why don't we say that prospects have to be on the roster from 7/31 until the end of the season. That way everyone has a nice even date to remember and it won't move around from year to year.
