Not fantasy baseball related...

But have any of you who don't live in Boston been watching the Devil Rays series this weekend on MLB.tv? They have to be among the worst announcers in the game. On Friday they got the two trades wrong, saying that Tadahito Iguchi and Kenny Lofton were traded and that Iguchi was traded for Max Ramirez. And they never corrected themselves. Ever.

Last night they complained about a bad check swing call that put Youks on base without mentioning an equally bad check swing call that allowed Upton to reach the inning before. They just wouldn't let it go and kept saying that Reyes got 5 outs to get them out of the inning (Gomes misplayed a ball in LF).

Just now in Sunday's game they complained about the fact that Kazmir didn't throw a fastball to Wily M. Pena when they thought he should have. Pena is Pedro fucking Cerrano. He cannot hit a breaking ball to save his life. He annihilates fastballs from lefties. It is the only thing he does well. Their announcing is just mind blowingly bad.

It is pretty amazing how bad some of the small market broadcasts are. Even the larger markets can't seem to consistently get it right. The YES announcers make me ill. "An A-BOMB from A-ROD!!!! YEEEESSSSSS!!!". "The Yankees Win.. THHHHEEEEEEE Yankees win!!!!!" (and are now 8 games out of first). Fucking Whores.

Those aren't the YES announcers, that's John Sterling from the radio broadcast. I generally find the guys on YES to be tolerable, though pretty dry. John Sterling is a hack, and Soozzynn Waldman is worse.

And yeah, the D-Rays guys were pretty awful. I had the games muted, most of the time. They don't hold a candle to the White Sox guys, Hawk Harrelson and his "He Gone!" schtick. They're completely intolerable.

Has anyone else been annoyed with NESN lately? Not Remy and Don, who are just fine by me, but the production and constant promotion of side projects. The amount of ads we're peppered with are starting to resemble the yankees radio broadcasts ("The first 15 outs have been brought to you by Geico, who remind you can save 15% or more in 15 minutes..."). That and the theme music. And Tina Cervasio. And that they often don't return in time for the first pitches of at bats.

Remy and Don are even getting to me a bit lately - it may be because I watch, like, every game, but although I usually enjoy their silliness and humor in some of the less interesting game, nowadays they fall into giggles in the 8th innings of one run games. One of my favorite part of MLBTV is hearing the other announcers and how they talk about their teams, I wish I could have heard the D-Rays guys.

The marketing is definitely a bit out of hand. Every inning has company X donating X dollars for every X to charity X. Plus, it's never really that much money so I never really feel that the donation cancels out the annoying promotion.
