Mark this day

Yes folks, it happened. The LickerStore AllStars got a win last night. After 14 consectuive days of drought, AJ Burnett pitches a complete game. Meanwhile, Mr. Bill's team gets 142 wins from his relievers.

Let's consider what happened between May 2nd and May 16th:

Eric Bedard
The stats speak for themselves: 3 starts, 2.25 era, 0.95 WHIP, 9.45 K/9, 0 Wins
Nate Robertson
Decided to spot start him here. Detroit is riding an 8 game winning streak and Robertson puts up a first class stinker against Seattle.
Joe Blanton
Gets two wins sitting on my bench. WTF. Didn't start him against Tampa Bay b/c was up against the Red Sox earlier in the week. Didn't start him against Cleveland because Cleveland has a good offense and I have 3 of their best hitters on my team. New Rule: Always start Blanton.
AJ Burnett
Admittedly, made a mistake by not starting him against Tampa on May 11. In his last three starts Burnett is 2-1 with 29 strikeouts. New Rule: Always start Burnett
Javier Vazquez
Pitches a no decision gem against Minnesota and then can't pull his head out of the sand to beat Kansas City. The goddamn Royals for fuck's sake. Before fantasy, I always used to root for the underdog teams. Now they just cause me great pain and mental anguish when my pitchers can't beat them.
King Felix
Is there any real reason to read injury reports? I put Hernandez into my lineup Sunday, April 29th after reports say he'll pitch Friday against the Yankees. On Wednesday, May 2nd, I find out that Hernandez won't pitch Friday after all. Ok, fine. Better safe than sorry. Friday rolls around and the Mariners say they'll move his start back 6 days... Ok, do the math, May 5th plus 6 days equals.... May 15th apparently. In a day-to-day league this wouldn't be a problem but don't they consider all the people out there in a weekly league? For crying out loud, I'm 75 innings behind pace!!!

Oh, for fucks sake. Should you really be that surprised when three of your pitchers are on teams that are 11th, 12th, and 14th in the AL in terms of runs scored that you're going to have trouble finding wins?

Also, can we take a moment to appreciate the fact that Jermaine Dye is 2/2 with a run, a homerun, and 4 RBI today, and it is only the 5th inning.

Just because you are pulling wins straight out of your ass doesn't mean wins are the single most frustrating stat in fantasy baseball. Good performances go unrewarded all the time as do crappy outings that get you a win. Pretty much if you don't have a pitcher on Boston, Cleveland, or Anaheim you are shit out of luck. I don't care WHO you have on your team, you go 2 weeks without a win the fantasy gods are not on your side.

But that is the nature of wins. They are definitely the hardest to predict and throwing yourself a pity party isn't going to change that. It is unlucky that you haven't had many wins, but your pitching staff isn't meant to pile up a lot of wins. Your best pitchers aren't on very good teams and you have a lot of middle rotation guys on bad teams. If you have pitchers from the more high powered offenses you get a lot more of those cheap wins - just look at Daisuke. He had back to back bad/mediocre starts and managed to come out with a couple of wins. On a team like the A's or the Mariners that just isn't possible.

As for why my relievers have so many wins, I have absolutely no idea. I just had a run of extra inning games where Neshek, Ray, and Reyes were all able to pick up a win or two.

In Johan Santana's nine starts, the Twins have scored 0, 3, 2, 3, 3, 6, 2, 3, and 7 runs, which works out a measly 3.2-run average. The AL average is 4.7 runs per game.

We've all got complaints.

Certainly we all have complaints, but having only 12 wins (2 wins in the month of May) is certainly more reason than the struggles Santana is going through.

It's the total team effort that really drives me crazy.
